Amelia won journalism’s prestigious Walkley Award in 1989, followed by a successful career in corporate communications. She returned to study and graduated in 2017 from the Queensland College of Art, attaining Griffith University’s Award for Academic Excellence. She is now an emerging artist, shortlisted for national art prizes and conducting solo exhibitions. She recently launched Skeptics in the Pub in the northern NSW town of Armidale.
As a child, she thought god made three sexes: Men, women and nuns (because nuns had bosoms, facial hair, and male names). Thus began Amelia Willmer’s skeptical journey, culminating decades later in the formation of a successful Skeptics in the Pub in Armidale, NSW. The monthly meetings attract up to 80 people.
